Hal Newhouser allowed Boston’s manager to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete
game and Enos Slaughter had 4 hits and 4 RBI as the Boston Red Sox
man-handled the Syracuse Express – the final score was 14 to 1.
Slaughter helped send the fans home happy. He singled in the 3rd inning,
smacked a single in the 6th inning, ripped a one-base hit which scored a run
in the 7th inning and tripled emptying the bases in the 8th inning. Boston
had a total of 16 hits for the game.
The win was credited to Newhouser (1-0) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.
Rex Barney(0-1) was the losing pitcher. His biggest problem was control as
he allowed 8 walks in 5 innings.

Red Sox 4 to 3.
Vic Raschi(1-0) gave Syracuse a solid outing. He went 7 innings allowing 7
hits and 2 walks. Boston threatened in the 9th but their rally came up
short.
Tom Ferrick recorded his 1st save. Ed Klieman(0-1) took the loss in relief.
‘We won because we did the little things right.’ Syracuse’s manager said
after the game. ‘This is why we practice things over and over and over, so
when we get in close games we don’t make mistakes.’

Birdie Tebbetts had 3 base hits as the Boston Red Sox defeated the Syracuse
Express by the score of 8 to 6 at Ebbets Field.
Boston scored the winning runs in the 9th inning plating 2 runs on 4 base
hits. Billy Goodman led off the inning for Boston when he doubled. George
Kell stepped up next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Tebbetts then hit a
single driving in a run. Thurman Tucker followed and he laced a one-base
hit. Lou Boudreau came up to bat and stroked a base-hit to load the bases.
Bobby Doerr kept things alive and drew a walk scoring the final run of the
inning. Boston finished with 14 hits while Syracuse ended up with 9.
The victory went to Mickey Harris(1-0) who went 1 inning, allowing 1 run.
Satchel Paige recorded the save, his 1st. Nels Potter(0-1) suffered the loss
in relief.

Left fielder Ted Williams slammed a homerun as the Boston Red Sox defeated the
Syracuse Express by a score of 3 to 0 at Ebbets Field.
Hal Newhouser(2-0) pitched a solid game. He gave up just 2 hits and 3 walks
in 7 and 2/3 innings. Lou Brissie pitched a perfect ninth to earn his 1st
save.

Bob Feller(1-0) and Rex Barney(0-2) dueled it out with Feller and the Boston
Red Sox coming out on top of the Syracuse Express by the score of 3 to
0.
Feller looked very much in control throughout the night. He was stingy on the
mound, allowing just 5 hits and 1 walk in 7 and 2/3 innings lowering his ERA
to 1.84. Ted Wilks earned the save with a perfect ninth, his 1st save.
