In an great finish the Boston Red Sox won in dramatic fashion over the
Syracuse Express by a score of 10 to 9 at Crosley Field.
Boston had the game winning rally in the bottom of the 9th inning scoring 2
runs on 3 hits. Bobby Doerr led off and keyed the rally when he doubled.
Grady Hatton was next and he tripled scoring a run. Del Crandall then
delivered a single giving Boston the win much to the delight of the home town
crowd. Boston kept the scorekeepers busy in the 4th inning which saw them
plate 3 runs on 3 hits. Boston dominated offensively as they scored in 6
different innings.
Sam Zoldak(1-0) went 2/3 of an inning allowing no runs for the victory. The
losing pitcher was Tom Ferrick(0-1) in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 3
hits without retiring a batter.
Lou Boudreau was ebullient after the game, ‘It’s great to win a hard fought
game like that. Our guys just weren’t going to be denied. And did you see
the fans – they were going wild! Yes sir, a very enjoyable win tonight!’

Second baseman Bobby Doerr lofted one into the ‘cheap seats’ and had 3 RBI as
the Boston Red Sox outscored the Syracuse Express 11 to 7.
Boston took the lead off Warren Spahn in the first inning as they scored 5
runs on 4 base hits. The big moment was provided by Doerr who thrilled the
crowd when he belted a three-run homer. Boston finished with 11 hits in the
victory.
The victory went to Hal Newhouser(1-0) who went 6 innings, allowing 5 runs.
Lou Brissie recorded the save, his 1st. Spahn(0-1) took the loss. He
pitched 1 inning giving up 4 hits and 1 walk.

Game 3 Red Sox 6 Express 5 Box Score
The Boston Red Sox plated 4 runs in the 3rd inning and and the Syracuse
Express locked up in an exciting one-run game at Ebbets Field. The final
score was the Boston Red Sox 6, the Syracuse Express 5 in 10 innings.
The score was knotted at 4 after nine innings. Boston won it in the 10th
inning. After an out was recorded, Bobby Doerr was the sparkplug when he
delivered a single. Del Crandall was next and he drew a walk. One out
later, Dom Dimaggio then reached on an error. George Kell followed next and
he smacked a single plating two runs. Boston had 13 hits for the night while
Syracuse had 10.
The win was credited to Ted Wilks(1-0) who went 2 innings allowing no runs.
Lou Brissie earned the save, his 2nd. Erv Palica(0-1) absorbed the loss in
relief. He was a hard-luck loser as he did not allow an earned run in his 1
inning of work.

Preacher Roe hurled a fine complete game shutout as the Syracuse Express
topped the Boston Red Sox by a score of 3 to 0 at Ebbets Field.
Roe(1-0) delivered a fine performance for Syracuse. He was reached for 8 hits
and 3 walks in 9 innings. Syracuse rapped out 10 hits for the night.
Fred Hutchinson(0-1) was given the loss. He pitched 7 innings and surrendered
7 hits and no walks.

Bob Feller allowed Lou Boudreau to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
at Ebbets Field as the Boston Red Sox beat the Syracuse Express 3 to
1.
